A graduate
of the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Emeka
Onwuka started his corporate working career in 1988 with
Arthur Andersen & Co. At the company, he was exposed
to both local and offshore training in accounting and management
consulting for the finance as well as oil and gas industries.
He became a chartered accountant in 1991 while still with
Arthur Andersen.
After four years with the company, he was
prepared for further career development and soon after moved
to Diamond Bank in 1992 as an assistant manager. His sterling
performance culminated in the conferment on Emeka of the
award of Best Performing Staff for the year 1995. He progressed
through branch banking to all the key areas of banking,
including corporate and investment banking, to managing
the Bank’s Oil and Gas division. In 1996, he became
the Bank’s Treasurer reporting to Executive Management
and with direct responsibility for asset and liability management
in both local and foreign currencies.
He has also attended
extensive development programmes in the Lagos Business School
and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
With his vast experience in all the key aspects on banking
and finance, Emeka rapidly rose through the rungs of the
management ladder of Diamond Bank and was elevated to the
position of Managing Director of the Bank. An erudite banker
at a young age of 41, Emeka’s potentials for greater
achievements are still very high.
