Tony
O. Elumelu, Group Managing Director, United Bank for Africa
(UBA) Plc
Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, MFR, is a research economist with honors
degree at both graduate and post graduate levels in Economics.
Tony obtained additional academic exposures from the Harvard
Business School, USA and the Institute of Management Development
(IMD) Lausanne, Switzerland. His banking / financial career
spans close to two decades and has seen him work in virtually
all areas of banking. He was appointed MD/CEO of Standard
Trust Bank Plc in 1997, a position he held till the successful
completion of its merger with United Bank for Africa Plc
in August 2005. He is a turnaround management expert.
In
the private sector, he is a founding Director of Transnational
Corporation Plc, Director of the Central Securities Clearing
System Limited and a member of the governing council of
the Financial Institutions Training Center. He is also the
President of the West African Bankers’ Association
(Nigerian chapter), Vice Chairman of Standard Trust Bank
(Ghana) Limited and Chairman of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
He was recently appointed Group Managing Director/Chief
Executive. Tony has served in various capacities in the
Public Sector including Membership of Presidential committee
of the Heart of Africa [Nigeria Image] project, Presidential
Committee on Consumer Finance Scheme, Presidential Committee
on Outsourcing, Presidential committee on NEPAD, the Advisory
Board of the FCT, Presidential Task Force on Aviation Sector,
Presidential Committee on Financing Agriculture, Advisory
Board of Abuja Technology Village and various other national
committees. He was awarded the national honor of Member
of the Order of the Federal Republic [MFR] in 2003.
